SAAFE CRC – Policy and Regulatory Advisory Group

Australia's Cooperative Research Centre for Solving Antimicrobial Resistance in Agribusiness, Food and Environments (SAAFE) has over 70 diverse partner organisations ranging from viticulture, aquaculture and horticulture, to water, organic waste, stockfeed and animal industries. It aims to tackle the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). By 2033, it will invest more than $150M into collaborative research to mitigate AMR.

With strong industry support and academic grunt, SAAFE CRC required executive level support for the Research Director to develop a critical element of the new CRCs governance structure: a Policy and Regulatory Advisory Group (PRAG). With the emerging new knowledge from the CRC will come policy and regulatory challenges. The PRAG is intended to support the work and direction of the CRC, and assist with the uptake of its research into policy and regulation nationally.

What we did

  • We worked internally with the leadership team to refine the needs for the new governance element, mapping stakeholders and their legislated needs.

  • We supported SAAFE CRC to co-create the Policy and Regulatory Advisory Group (PRAG) which had such cross-sectoral interest that over 50 policy and regulators attended the initial meeting.

  • We assisted with the delivery of the initial PRAG meetings to support leadership to expand the internal CRC capability for maintaining the PRAG long-term.

The project deliverables were completed in early 2024. For more information about SAAFE CRC click here.
